A couple of days ago makeuseof.com has posted an article titled “Ditching Evernote? Check Out 5 Free Web Clipping Alternatives” As an alternative to Evernote they have mentioned Microsoft Office OneNote and along with that they have mentioned my add-on Clip to OneNote.

To supplement OneNote’s tools, you can try out the experimental Mozilla Addon – Clip to OneNote. Though the results are not that clean cut, but the add-on makes sending of text and images a bit easier from Firefox to OneNote.

It is a good start and a motivational factor. Thanks to Saikat Basu at makeuseof.com

Keyboard Shortcut to Shutdown Windows 7

Shutdown options have been moved from a separa...
Image via Wikipedia

I never shutdown my computer at night. I just turn off the monitor and go to sleep.  One problem I faced with Windows 7 was that when power goes off, which happens awful lot of time, its very difficult to shutdown my computer, without switching on my monitor. But if I switch on my monitor then UPS wont withstand (Yes, I am using age old CRT).

I really miss Windows XP, where I would just press: Win + U + U.

The shutdown button is replaced in Windows 7 with power button, I was struggling without that option. But recently my friend taught me the short cut key. But before going in to details, It is to be noted that the default power button action must be “shutdown”. To do that go to Taskbar and Start Menu Properties dialog box by right clicking on the task bar and selecting properties. In the second tab you will have the option to change the value for the default power button action. After you have set that you can use Win + Right Arrow + Enter or Ctrl + Esc + Right Arrow + Enter to shutdown. Easy na?

Clip to OneNote 2.2 Released with support for Thunderbird 2.0-3.0.*

Next version of my add-on Clip to OneNote is released. Thanks for all my contributors, mentors, friends and users. This release is compatible from Firefox 2.0 to 3.6 Beta and Thunderbird 2.0 – 3.0.*. It is tested with  Microsoft Office Onenote 2010.

New in this version:

  • Support for Thunderbird 2.0 – 3.0.* is added. It is to be noted that support for Thunderbird 2.* will be dropped from next version and only 3.* and newer will be supported.

I sincerely thank all who have made a donation for this add-on. I am really happy to know that my add-on is useful to you. If you have a couple of bucks to spare, please consider making a donation.

I request you to review this add-on and post your comments so that the add on might be out of sand box as soon as possible.

Important Note:

Some users have reported that they get error message while downloading the add on. The error message may vary from Firefox could not install the file at .. Not a valid install package -207 or Firefox could not install the file at .. because: Invalid file hash (possible download corruption) when clicking an “Install” link. It is to be noted that these errors occur because of Firefox’s mirrors server error and not because of the add-on itself. And it will occur only to a add-on in sandbox and not to a public add-on. There are two ways to rectify it. First and recommended method is to logging into this site (if you don’t have a account, you have to create one) and then trying to download. Second method is to download from my server. Then you can open it in Firefox via File->Open file to install it.

Some Firefox Tweaks

These are some of the Firefox tweaks to customize Firefox to your own need.

Note that all these tweaks depend upon configuration settings of Firefox which can be set by accessing about:config url inside Firefox.

  • To Open Search box Results in New Tab ,  search for value browser.search.openintab in about:config and set it to false
  • In Firefox 3.6 to enable The Aero Peek for each tab  set browser.taskbar.previews.enable to true
  • Again in Firefox 3.6 if you want to activate the new tab switcher button on the right-hand side of the tab bar, set browser.allTabs.previews to true
  • Another really awesome new feature in Firefox 3.6 is an enhanced Ctrl+Tab, but you’ll have to turn it on with a simple tweak if you want to use it. Once you’ve done that, you can simply hit the shortcut key combination to flip between the tabs. Note that it only activates if you have 3 or more tabs open. To enable this just set browser.ctrlTab.previews to true

Hope these were helpful to you.. If you have any other favorite tweaks please let me know..
